How Feminist is my city actually?
Unworkshop
The development of Western cities has historically reflected traditional gender roles and labor distribution. For example, urban planning primarily catered to white, male, heterosexual users, while women were generally relegated to private spaces. Although these roles and the division between private and public spheres have become less rigid, cities remain largely exclusive, prioritizing production over caregiving activities.
This unworkshop invites participants to consider the concept of a feminist city and to continually raise this question, as feminist improvements in urban spaces benefit everyone. After reflecting on the idea of a feminist city, we explore visual languages that can bring attention to a more caring and inclusive urban environment.
